Alex Schadenberg Winner of CCRL Award
While our country may be moving in a sad direction so as to accept physician assisted killing, Alex Schadenberg has been tireless in his advocacy for the affirmation of life and of sustaining the Hippocratic tradition in health care. He speaks for the disabled, for the vulnerable, for healthcare workers, and for so many of us with a genuine zeal for a life affirming approach, even at the end of our lives. The CCRL is delighted to recognize the ongoing work of Alex Schadenberg with the Archbishop Exner Award for Excellence in Catholic Public Witness.
The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) Opposes Bill C-14
Canada moves to engage third party “suicide”, against our history, and the practice of good medicine. Parliament should not meekly comply with a radical Supreme Court decision, when other mature democracies have come to the opposite conclusion. Much less should it expand hastily on the Carter decision. The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) sent the following submission to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights regarding Bill C-14.

Michael Miller, CSB, and Douglas Farrow, Professor of Christian Thought at McGill University.

In the meantime, we repost today’s statement made by the archbishop of Toronto, Thomas Cardinal Collins.
The CCRL in the Media
The CCRL has been active in the media this month. Here is an update with links to our recent work.
The CCRL strongly opposes Parliamentary Committee’s Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia Recommendations
The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) strongly opposes the recommendations of the Report of the Special Joint Committee on Physician-Assisted Dying, titled “Medical Assistance in Dying: A Patient-Centred Approach.” The CCRL uses the more accurate terms “assisted suicide” and “euthanasia” since there is nothing medicinal whatsoever in the process of killing a patient or intervening so that a patient may commit suicide more easily.
