The CCRL submits to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) that Interim Guidance on Physician-Assisted Death document violates a doctor’s Charter right to freedom of conscience and religion

The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) is pleased to provide this submission to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) regarding the draft CPSO Interim Guidance on Physician-Assisted Death document. The CCRL has strongly opposed all forms of assisted suicide and euthanasia. We agree with the Joint Statement of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) and other religious leaders (October 28, 2015)

The CCRL Appears Before Federal External Panel on Physician Assisted Death, Persistent in Opposition

Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) president Phil Horgan and executive director Christian Elia appeared in Toronto before the External Panel on Options for a Legislative Response to Carter v. Canada, restating the CCRL’s opposition to the imposition by the Supreme Court of a new Canadian regime of assisted suicide. The CCRL calls for the External Panel and the federal government to recognize and insist upon the adequate provision of palliative care for end of life situations. The CCRL asserted the need for robust protection for the freedoms of everyone who declines or opposes assisted suicide for reasons of conscience or religion.

The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) makes this second submission to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) regarding the unacceptable draft policy Conscientious Objection. The CCRL’s first submission to the CPSS was made on February 27, 2015 regarding the original draft policy Conscientious Refusal.
