The CCRL strongly opposes Parliamentary Committee’s Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia Recommendations
The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) strongly opposes the recommendations of the Report of the Special Joint Committee on Physician-Assisted Dying, titled “Medical Assistance in Dying: A Patient-Centred Approach.” The CCRL uses the more accurate terms “assisted suicide” and “euthanasia” since there is nothing medicinal whatsoever in the process of killing a patient or intervening so that a patient may commit suicide more easily.

The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) is pleased to provide this submission to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) regarding the draft CPSO Interim Guidance on Physician-Assisted Death document. The CCRL has strongly opposed all forms of assisted suicide and euthanasia. On Wednesday, December 15 we will be having our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Toronto, in the hall of St. Pius X Church, 2305 Bloor Street West, M6S 1P1. Our guest speaker is Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC). All are invited to this free event.
The CCRL Appears Before Federal External Panel on Physician Assisted Death, Persistent in Opposition
Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) president Phil Horgan and executive director Christian Elia appeared in Toronto before the External Panel on Options for a Legislative Response to Carter v. Canada, restating the CCRL’s opposition to the imposition by the Supreme Court of a new Canadian regime of assisted suicide. The CCRL calls for the External Panel and the federal government to recognize and insist upon the adequate provision of palliative care for end of life situations. The CCRL asserted the need for robust protection for the freedoms of everyone who declines or opposes assisted suicide for reasons of conscience or religion.
The CCRL Deplores Anti-Catholic Comments from NDP Communications Director
The Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) expressed profound disappointment today in response to the offensive comments admitted by NDP Director of Communications, Shawn Dearn. The CCRL urges that all involved in public discourse engage in a respectful presentation of views, so as to improve the nature of public debate, rather than engage in its debasing.
