The Sacred Heart Convent in Calgary, Alberta has had its’ statue of Our Lady of Lourdes decapitated, states the Toronto Sun.
The statue of Our Lady which held its’ place in the grotto at the FCJ Christian Retreat Centre had been decapitated between Thursday and Friday.
Police are looking for who is responsible. One of the sisters, Sister Ann Marie showed the QMI Agency the statue and how it had been damaged. The head had been taken clean off and its arm had also been broken off.
The sisters did not want to have the statue photographed out of respect for the statue and what it means. They explained that it’s not just a statue, but also at the grotto it is a place to pray and come to reflect.
The police inspector, Paul Malchow confirms that there is an investigation ongoing and that he is not surprised at the targeting of sacred objects.
