On Easter Sunday, in St. Theresa Point First Nation, Manitoba, as reported by Grandin Media, the St. Theresa Point Catholic Church was completely burned down. The arson comes just hours after the Church’s Easter mass celebration, with congregants in great distress as reported by The Catholic Register. A surviving image of St. Kateri Tekakwitha gives some hope to the people. A statue of the Blessed Mother outside the Church remains unharmed by fire. The suspect, a 32-year-old man was released later on from police custody, but given restrictions. The fire is still under investigation. The Church community was set to use their funds to make repairs, now it will be used to rebuilding the Church. The St. Theresa Point Catholic Church was the only Catholic Church in the Catholic First Nation. The Church was part of the Archdiocese of the Keewatin-Le Pas of northeastern Winnipeg.
