In Mercier, Montreal, historic Sainte Philomene Catholic Church has been set on fire for the third time, reports CBC News. The Church had been built in 1848, and the community grew around the Church. The Church had been a community staple. During this incident the roof had collapsed. Neighbouring fire departments came to aid the Mercier firefighters. The first time the Church had been burned was in 1955, and again later in 1975. Both times the walls and the roof remained intact; this time the Church was not so lucky. The fire broke out in the sacristy, both the altar and the sacristy were lost. Police are investigating the incident.
