In early July 2018, St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church suffered property damages in Sudbury, Ontario, reports Sudbury.com.
Surveillance video footage displays a man who walked onto the church property and broke the glass door and a mirror of the church. The man committed the crime around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. He hurled a piece of concrete through the door. As a result, not only did he break down the door, but damaged a mirror as well.
The priest of the church, Fr. Peter Bodnar, knows the vandal by face but not by name. The priest had seen the man walk around the church twice during the day, saying that he while does not know what possible influence the man may have been under, clearly he seemed mad or upset.
The cost of damages averages around $2,000, but the glass door was replaced.
Unfortunately this was not the only incident. In November the church had also suffered a break-in, resulting in theft of sound system. Fr. Peter notes that the area of the church seems somewhat unsafe, citing needles being picked up off the property and people wandering around.
Fr. Peter told Sudbury.com that he did not think it would take police long to find the man who committed the crime because he is constantly at the church property.
