Banff 2008

Two stained glass windows have been broken by vandals at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Banff, Alberta, reports CBC News.

The two windows that were smashed by rocks that the vandals threw at them, depicted scenes of the Annunciation and the Nativity.

The stained glass windows were designed by Rev. Robert J. McGuinness, who is also the architect of the church. These windows are noted around the world and bring many tourists to the church.

Rev. Bryan Frank of St. Mary’s says that the church is so low on money that paying the insurance cost of $5,000 will be difficult. The damages resulted in $12,000.

Both the church and the train station located near the church were vandalized on the same night of August 12.

RCMP Cpl. Gary Fedrau asks that the public aid in this incident to find those responsible. At this time they have no witnesses or leads. Anyone with information is asked to contact Banff RCMP (403-762-2228) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
