A fire was deliberately set in Morinville, Alberta at the St. Jean Baptiste Church. The historic Church was burned right before Canada Day, and in the wake of multiple Catholic Churches being burned down or vandalized following the discovery of the remains at Former Residential School sites. As reported by the The Star, the community canceled Canada Day celebrations and decided to share in the memories of the historic Church at the community cultural centre. The cause of the fire has not determined at this point in time and is possibly related to the sensitive situation of the remains being found.
