St. James the Minor Catholic Church in Mallorytown suffered an arson in 2019, now it is being repaired bit by bit, reports Brockvilleist.
The new owner of the Catholic church, Scott Bain purchased the church in 2011. His mother, Anne-Marie Langenegger stated that the arsonist was a local teen, who was on an arson streak. The church was set on fire on September 28, 2019 and the fire started in the back of the kitchen annex. Lots of wood damages, along with the roof catching fire but the stone walls remained intact.
Due to the fire and the damages, the Township of Front of Yonge sent Bain letters, telling him he would need a fence, lawn maintenance, garbage containers and the windows would have to be boarded.
Bain decided to move to the church, living in a tent, hoping to continue repairing it, lest it face possible demolition. His sister, Sara Wilson posted on Facebook to the Brockville community page that she wanted to have people come out in support of saving the church.
During 2023, Scott had to do even more work as instructed by the township.
