On National Indigenous Peoples’ Day two Churches, St. Gregory Catholic Church located near Inkaneep, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Penticton, were burned down in British Columbia, reports CTV News. The Churches, located on First Nations’ land were burned in the early hours of the morning on June 21. RCMP have named these fires as suspicious with no current leads. Upon trying to tame the fires their line of action was to save the surrounding areas as the Churches themselves could not be saved. Both fires are under investigation. They draw no conclusions of the Churches being burned as linked to the discovery of children’s remains being found at the Former Kamloops Indian Residential School site. They ask that anyone with information contact them directly.
