Religious Icon Theft at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in St. John’s, New Brunswick

DATE OF OCCURRENCE: July 8, 2015

On July 8 in St. John’s, New Brunswick, a religious icon had been stolen from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. St. John’s police force had made apparent that the incident had been documented as a ‘hate crime’ due to their automated system, however, they stress that it is not one. The perpetrators had taken the object from the altar of the Church and thrown it into a dumpster. The icon is hand-painted and one-of-a-kind. The police force is looking into the situation by checking the surveillance footage.
