Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Kehewin Cree Nation, Alberta, has been completely burned down. The perpetrator has been arrested and charged, reports Global News. The fire had been deliberately set. The Church had been previously abandoned due to its conditions of mold and dampness. The Church was supposed to be torn down in 2019. Church members had moved their celebrations to the Reserve Community Hall. The suspect, who’s name has not been released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act will appear in court on September 21, 2021. No one was injured in the fire, but the loss of the building has been greatly felt through the community.
