In Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine statue has been damaged, reports SaskNow. The ‘roadside Mary’ statue of the Blessed Mother which is located aways off the highway had her hands broken off.

The treasurer of the board, Ms. Celine Perrilat states that she is the one who looks after the statue and it was brought to her attention that there was damage done to the statue. There are no surveillance cameras and due to the location of the statue being just off the highway with lots of traffic it could have been anyone who damaged it.

Perrilat also notes that it is odd for the individual to have targeted the hands which would be folded together in prayer. She states that previous vandalism has happened to the statue but that repairs were possible. She is worried that the statue over time will not be reparable.

The Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine and the roadside statue of Mary are part of a heritage and pilgrimage site. The statue was put up at the highway in 2011. It is lit year around and stands as a reminder to pray and have faith.
