Grimsby 2010
Just one day after Christmas, St. Joseph’s Church in Grimsby had their nativity scene stolen, reports Niagara This Week.
The nativity scene statues had been encased in a glass scene, located right before the entrance of the church. Some of the statues had been hand carved and donated from the Downsview Airport Chapel before it closed down.
Bruce Jones, one of the members of the church’s property committee explained what happened. He said that at around 1:30 a.m. on December 26, the pastor who had been asleep heard noises of trucks in the back parking lot of the church. They then called the police and upon arrival realized the statues had been taken.
This is not the first time that the nativity scene and display case had been targeted. A couple of years ago, the display case had been damaged but nothing had happened to the statues, explains Jones.
Jones also says that the statues have value, but that he always wondered when something like this might have happened.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) .
