Holy Cross Cemetery was vandalized by three individuals who have been charged, reports CBC News.
In the Holy Cross Cemetery damages had been done to multiple headstones. A man, Raymond Coolen, who lives near the cemetery happened to see the three individuals, one who was a carrying a cross that had been smashed off one of the headstones.
Coolen claims that they had been drinking near the Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel that is located on the grounds of the cemetery. He then decided to follow the men out of the cemetery and call police. The three men were then arrested shortly thereafter.
The three individuals, one a seventeen year old, and the other two, twenty year olds, were charged with mischief.
Due to the damages perpetrated by the three individuals, the Holy Cross Cemetery Trust has taken over the restoration of the cemetery.
Holy Cross Cemetery is the oldest Catholic cemetery in Halifax, having opened in 1843.
