Winnipeg 2009
As reported by CBC News on Halloween weekend, vandals caused damages to the headstones at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dozens of headstones had been damaged and overturned by vandals. These damages resulted in over $5,000.
The Rev. Marcel Damphousse explained that a passerby reported the vandalism to the police on Sunday night. He also explains that he does not know if the insurance will cover the damages for the family of the headstones that were affected by the vandals’ actions.
The Winnipeg police officer, Const. Jacqueline Chaput states that the reasonings behind the actions were not known, and the culprits were not known at this time either.
