According to le Nouvelliste, on October 3, the former Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allegresses Church went up in flames. Firefighters were working to die down the flames until 9 pm that evening.
The fire director, Dany Cloutier stated that at the time of the fire’s starting no one was in the building. The fire chief also states that the cause of the fire at this time is unknown, however people around the church said they had seen flames starting in a container that was located near the church.
Due to the nature of the fire’s wide reach, a power outage affected over roughly 2,000 houses in the surrounding areas. Police force was also employed to help evacuate the area and neighbouring shopping mall. It was a worry that the winds would bring the fire across and spread. Luckily that did not happen.
The owner of the church, estate developer, Mr. Georges Mouradian, states that the church is not insured and had planned on turning the church into housing. While the church was to be converted to housing in time, the church itself was an important part of the Trois-Rivieres heritage. Another part of history has been damaged. The church was not able to saved at all.
