On May 29 of this year, the statue of Fr. Lacombe outside the Fr. Lacombe Chapel in Alberta had been vandalized with graffiti, reports Catholic Saskatoon News.
St. Albert RCMP received information that the statue of Fr. Lacombe at the Fr. Lacome Chapel in St. Albert, Alberta had been vandalized with red or brown paint, and the words, “No Rest for the Wicked” had been written on the base of the statue. The alert came from community members who saw the vandalism.
The Archdiocese of Edmonton communications lead, Andrew Ehrkamp hired a company to clean the paint off the statue. Ehrkamp stated that actions like these cause distress to the community and especially to the parish of St. Albert.
The RCMP has started an investigation and currently has no suspects as there is no video evidence. Cpl. Morgan Kyle of the RCMP has asked that anyone with any information contact the police. There is no determined motive as of yet, however, it does seem as though this incident is similar to the vandalisms and arsons during 2021 after the claim of mass graves found at the Kamloops First Nation in British Columbia was made.
