In Vita, Manitoba, the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery has suffered extensive damages to headstones as reported by The Winnipeg Free Press, The Carillon. Two dozen headstones were damaged and the investigation done by the Emerson RCMP lead to no conclusion of who the perpetrator(s) might be. A Vita resident reported the incident after passing by the Cemetery. The resident, David Machula who reported the vandalism, and another resident, Robert Cesmystruk have family members buried in the Cemetery. They went together to check the damage and to see what could be done for reparation. The Vita Ukrainian Cemetery is shared by both the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Cemetery is the first in Vita and has never had any recorded incidences of vandalism happening previously.
