Across Canada Churches have been hit with graffiti vandalism and arson on Canada Day, among them the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John, Newfoundland, reports CBC News. Red and orange paints were used to graffiti multiple Churches, their doors and outer walls splashed, railings and staircases taped with signs and messages scrawled on the sidings. The spree comes after the announcement of remains being found at Former Residential School sites. The public announcement has caused distress and agitation. Police are aware of the sensitive nature of the crimes. They maintain their integrity during the investigations.
