On May 1st, the Barrhead RCMP received some information from the public who submitted tips about a possible arson at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alberta, reports Town and Country Today. The Camrose lady who can be seen in photos provided by the Barrhead RCMP was seen outside the Church with what seemed to be a jerry can of gasoline or other flammable substance. An attempt at lighting the Church on fire was made, however she can been seen getting into black Jeep Cherokee. There is a possibility of this attempted crime being a mental health affair as the witness who more than likely stopped the arson from progressing noted that the lady gave a concerning response when asked why she was trying to set the fire. The woman’s response was, “it was for the Germans.” The witness also took pictures of the lady and the damages. They also submitted them to the BARCC, Barrhead Area Regional Crime Coalition.
Barrhead RCMP Sergeant, Bob Dodds explains that damage was minimal and applauds the quick work that the public had done to help with the incident. That also the woman was identified because of the BARCC. For this reason it was suspected that this woman may have also been responsible for a shed that was set on fire only 15 minutes later at the location of an alley behind Sal’s Famous on 49th Street.
The police officers found the woman the next day, who was set to appear in court in front of a justice on May 3rd. She was later released after being set with conditions. She will appear in court again later in the month.
