As reported by The Catholic Register, a man had started a fire at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary, Alberta on May 19. Two church workers who had been inside the church at the time heard the noise of the man starting the fire and opened the door to see what the problem was. Upon seeing the two workers, the man started towards them, running aggressively. The two workers closed the doors to him. He tried to break through the doors to get in. The workers called 911 and a detachment was sent to extinguish the fire.
The Calgary Police Service gave the description of the assailant as roughly 6″ feet tall, 180 pounds and between the ages of 35 to 45 years old. The man also may be bald or has a shaved head. The Calgary Police Service Hate Crime Prevention Team is looking into the incident as possibly hate motivated. The investigation is ongoing.
