Toronto, ON December 17, 2021 – The CCRL is saddened to report that our dear friend and mentor, Janine Langan, has died, at the age of 88, on Sunday, December 12, 2021.  Janine suffered a fall in the windstorm on the day before and she did not recover from a cranial injury.

While we mourn her passing from this life, we are assured that she will be rewarded with the promise of eternal life, reunited with her dear husband, Tom Langan, one of the League’s founders, who predeceased her in 2012.

Janine’s teaching history was legendary, at all levels, from elementary school students through post graduate work.  Her students were not merely to be instructed, but to be nourished and formed by frequent interactions, including dinners in her home.  She was most notably a founder of the Christianity and Culture program at the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto (USMC), which carries on her fine work.

She and Tom were recognized by the Holy Father with entry to the papal Order of St. Sylvester, in 2006.  Janine received numerous other awards in her career and her legacy rests not only with her family, but with the thousands of students whose lives she touched.

Janine leaves five children, eleven grandchildren and more great-grandchildren.

How blessed we were to have known her and to have been her friend.
