Honouring Dr. Moira McQueenDr. McQueen is a respected scholar in Catholic moral theology and bioethics. Through her academic work, teaching, and leadership with the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute, she has helped Catholics and healthcare professionals consider complex questions about human life and dignity in light of Catholic teaching. In 2014, Pope Francis appointed her to the Vatican’s International Theological Commission, an advisory body that assists the Holy See on theological questions. Her work has addressed issues such as end-of-life care, euthanasia and assisted suicide, reproductive technologies, and freedom of conscience in healthcare. These questions affect real people, families, healthcare workers, and public policy—and call for careful ethical reflection grounded in respect for every human person. Dr. McQueen’s contribution is especially significant to the CCRL’s mission. Her scholarship and public witness help bring a thoughtful Catholic perspective into public discussion, underscoring why freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, and the inherent dignity of every person deserves protection. |
