Quebec 2009

As reported by Metro, the historic St. Paul’s Catholic Church had been destroyed by fire in June, in Gatineau, Quebec.

Gatineau police have been able to identify an essential witness to the fire. Police had made sketches of the witness in hopes that the public would be able to aid them in identifying the witness who was seen at the church during the time of the fire. He was seen in the parking lot of the church just a half hour before the fire started.

Later on, police had found remnants of break and enter and a gas can near to the church. They were able to ascertain how old the gasoline was and the brand of it.

They believe that the gas and the can had been purchased at a Canadian Tire just a few months prior to the arson. Police went around canvassing residents in the area who had bought gas and cans at the Canadian Tire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Robert Charbonneau (819-243-2345, ext. 6007)
