According to the Ottawa Citizen, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church suffered damages from a fire.

On March 27, 2018 at exactly 3:07 p.m. is when Ottawa’s public fire information officer, Danielle Cardinal explained that the fire seemed to have started in a small structure near the back of the church. Smoke could be seen coming out of the building, however, there were no flames spreading.

A resident of the area, a man named Frank Mahroof had noted the smoke had begun to pour out of the roof of the church.

Firefighters gained control of the fire at 3:22 p.m. and by 4 p.m. only the smell of the smoke was lingering. Firefighters had brought in fans to ventilate the church.

The first fire alarm had been called at 3 p.m. and a secondary one had been called so that the roads of the surrounding area would be blocked off for safety.

Cardinal did not suppose that the church would be closed for long, only temporarily, noting that there would be possible low water damages.

There were no injuries reported.
