As reported by Peak, the former St. Gerard Catholic Church suffered an attempted arson with damages done to the church. On the 24 of February, RCMP were called to the scene of the church at 3 A.M. by neighbours of the church. They arrived on the scene in time to put out the fire. There were a total of 36 broken windows and they had found branches inside the church. The smoke from the fire had left extensive damages. In 2022 the church had been permanently closed after being a main stronghold of the community for 60 years.
