TORONTO, Oct. 18, 2006 The Catholic Civil Rights League invites members and guests to its annual general meeting Nov. 2 at 7 pm. The event will be held at St. Michaels Choir School Auditorium, 66 Bond Street.
Keynote speaker will be William Gairdner, chairman of Enshrine Marriage Canada. His presentation will emphasize the importance for Canadian society of upholding the traditional understanding of marriage. Mr. Gairdner is a former professor of English literature at York University, successful businessman and Olympic athlete. He is the author of numerous books, including The Trouble with Canada (1990), The War Against the Family (1993), Constitutional Crack-up (1994) and On Higher Ground: Reclaiming a Civil Society (1996). He was the managing editor of a landmark historical book, Canadas Founding Debates (1999).
Mr. Gairdner was the founder and first president of Civitas, a national organization of 250 prominent academics, journalists, authors, and interested citizens. Civitas was founded to promote and deepen understanding of the problems of freedom and order in modern society.
