TORONTO, October 16, 2007 – The Catholic Civil Rights League is pleased to announce its annual general meeting will take place Thursday, November 8 at 7 pm at St. Michael’s Choir School, Toronto. Members and guests are welcome to attend
Guest speaker Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC), will discuss strategies for promoting compassionate options for end-of-life care, in order to combat the anti-life forces that encourage euthanasia. The League has always said that better choices for palliative care would greatly reduce the impetus for euthanasia and assisted suicide, and has supported this position in its briefs to Parliament.
The EPC co-produced the DVD “Turning the Tide” with Salt and Light Television. The 28-minute video explores the reasons why people are seeking to legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia. It focuses on the arguments related to personal autonomy and safeguards, the question of whether euthanasia puts vulnerable people at risk, and the reality of what we need to do to make a difference in our society.
The talk will begin at approximately 8 pm. Members will receive and vote on the annual activity and financial reports, and slate of directors, beginning at 7 pm. For more information, or to confirm attendance, call 416-466-8244 or e-mail the League.
